When I was young, I dealt with bullying. My grandmother would tell me that the bullies were wrong and were trying to put their own hate into my soul. She would also tell me to let their hate roll off me like water off a duck's back. I give away ducks so that people have a physical, visual reminder of that same advice.
Before I began focusing on giving away ducks and stuff, I stood as a shield between protesters and pride events. I carried a huge rainbow striped umbrella and stood about 6 feet in front of the protesters so that when people heard their hate, they would look over and see me. I'd even spin the umbrella! Those protesters can be extremely loud, and I saw people covering their ears to protect themselves. I realized that I could easily give away ear plugs to help muffle some of that hate, and that's how they became part of the giveaways.
While the rubber ducks with their pride capes and trans pride scarves are very obviously LGBTQ+ coded, the little 3D-printed ducks are mostly just multicolored. I wanted them to be more subtle and less identifying so that people could have them anywhere without triggering any negative reactions (unless people just hate ducks).
NOTHING! These ducks and stuff are my gifts to the community. I have had many people support what I do by buying supplies for me from my Amazon wish list and by sending me funds through my GoFundMe account. See my How to help page if you'd like to support my mission.
